Art From Traumatic Brain Injury Sufferers On Display (And For Sale) In Millburn Saturday

Artists recovering from brain injuries will show their work at an Essex County gallery. Proceeds will aid those living with brain injuries.

MILLBURN, NJ — In 1993, two families whose sons suffered brain injuries came together to found the Opportunity Project in Millburn, meant to improve the quality of life for those living with such an injury.

Nearly 30 years later, the group — which has served more than 630 people — has partnered with an art gallery in Millburn to help show their clients' work. Proceeds will help adults living with brain injuries.

Creating art can be helpful in promoting healing and recovery after a brain injury, often leading to an improved quality of life, says the group.

March marked Brain Injury Awareness Month and Opportunity Project (OP) has been working with the community to support their events focusing on brain injury prevention and improving the quality of life for persons living with traumatic brain injuries and their families.

In 2005, the organization relocated to a new, accessible, 14,000-square-foot facility to provide vocational, educational, social and recreational, life skills, and long-term support services to the members.

In 2019, Opportunity Project partnered with Children’s Specialized Hospital (CSH), an RWJBarnabas Health facility. The partnership will streamline the transition of services offered at CSH for young adults with brain injuries into adulthood.

The J. Nunez Gallery is located at 343 Millburn Ave.

The Love Always collection is also on display at www.jnunezgallery.com.
