COVID Tests At Millburn School Canceled For 3 Weeks Due To Low Usage

COVID-19 testing will resume a few days before the start of school in September, the Millburn School District said.

MILLBURN, NJ — Despite a recent period in which COVID hospitalizations were rising statewide, there is no rush for tests at the local high school.

On Tuesday, the Millburn School District announced that COVID testing is canceled for Aug. 10, Aug. 17, and Aug. 24 at the school.

It will resume on Monday, Aug. 29, in advance of the start of school on Sept. 1.

There are other locations to be tested and vaccinated in Essex County, such as here.

According to Essex County, on Tuesday, Aug. 9, Millburn had six new confirmed cases of COVID since the day before. However, with home testing, not all cases are reported.

In total, Millburn has lost 18 residents to the virus since the start of the pandemic. There have been 4,298 reported cases in the township.

Statewide, hospitals reported six COVID deaths in the last 24 hours.

Vaccinations And Statistics

The COVID vaccine is available at the Essex County vaccine centers, local pharmacies, and some doctor's offices.

After the vaccine rollout, Millburn was one of the first communities to vaccinate almost all eligible residents.

Doctors say the vaccine helps prevent severe illness and death in variants of the virus.

The state said late last month that statewide, COVID hospitalizations are up to the highest numbers since February, and residents of all counties except Mercer, Salem, and Cumberland should mask up in crowds.

The guidance comes with a gradual increase in New Jersey's total COVID-19 hospitalizations, which surpassed 1,100 patients for the first time last month since mid-February, according to state officials.

Right now, the death rate from COVID is highest in New Mexico, Florida, Oregon, and these states.
