ICE Makes Arrest Near Millburn Train Station, Mayor Says

"What makes this even more frustrating is that our local police department, and our residents, are not notified when ICE comes into town."

MILLBURN, NJ — Federal immigration authorities arrested someone near the Millburn Train Station on Tuesday, the town’s mayor says.

According to Mayor Annette Romano, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers arrested one person near the train station. No additional details were immediately available, she told Patch.

Previous reports of ICE in Millburn have riled up controversy in the township.

Romano spoke about the latest incident in a message on Wednesday.

“I was horrified to learn that ICE came into our community – again,” the mayor wrote. “I don’t know all the details, but I do know this: this goes against who we are as a community. Our neighbors were frightened. Rumors spread, fear took hold, and people felt unsafe in their own neighborhoods.”

“What makes this even more frustrating is that our local police department, and our residents, are not notified when ICE comes into town,” Romano continued. “Our community is built on fairness, respect, and mutual trust. When actions like this disregard our local standards, they harm our rights and the trust that unites us.”

“In a world filled with uncertainty, we must stand up and stand tall for one another, for our community and for our children,” the mayor concluded. “Strength, compassion, and unity are how we move forward together.”
