John McAleavey: Short Hills Businessman Passes Away
Short Hills resident was the executive director of the Eastern Produce Council.

John McAleavey, the longtime executive director of the Short Hills-based Eastern Produce Council, died on Friday at his home in Short Hills.
He was 80 years old.
A Mass will be celebrated Thursday, June 11, at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 50 Short Hills Ave., Short Hills.

Visitation is scheduled for June 10 at the Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home in Springfield.
According to an obituary in ThePacker.com, the Newark native served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Leyte during the early 1950s before earning a degree from Rutgers University.

He worked in many parts of the produce industry including retail, merchandising, sales, marketing and as a consultant for the California Pistachio Commission, the Chilean Fresh Fruit Association and the New York Department of Agriculture and Markets.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The John McAleavey Jr. Fund, PO Box 514, Short Hills, NJ, 07078, to help continue its 20-year tradition of providing services for individuals and families affected by spinal cord injuries.
