Local Justice: Decisions in Municipal Court

Municipal Court handles three cases this week.

In State v. DeShaun Colson of Vauxhall, the State charged him with obstructing justice. The police were holding him in connection with outstanding warrants for his arrest issued out of Union.  He managed to escape from his handcuffs, but not from the locked holding room at the police station.  He pleaded guilty to the charge. The Court imposed a fine of $100, $33 in court costs, a $50 VCCO (Victims of Crime Compensation Office) penalty and a $75 safe neighborhood fee.

In State v. Miguel Rocha of Union, the State charged him with shoplifting $145 worth of clothing and product from Ralph Lauren.  He pleaded guilty to the charge. The Court sentenced him to 10 days of community service and ordered him not to return to Ralph Lauren for two years, the violation of which could subject him to a criminal trespass charge. The Court also imposed a fine of $300, $33 in court costs, a $50 VCCO penalty and a $75 safe neighborhood fee.

In State v. Lilian Ibiang of Newark, the State charged her with theft for taking $312 over time from her cash register at Macy's. She pleaded guilty to the charge. The Court ordered her to make restitution and imposed a fine of $300, $33 in court costs, a $50 VCCO penalty and a $75 safe neighborhood fee. The Court also ordered her not to return to Macy's for two years, the violation of which could subject her to a criminal trespass charge.
