Millburn Cop Dies In Crash; Fundraiser, Meal Train Will Aid His Family

"We lost a brother, father, husband, son and a great cop," the Millburn PBA wrote, mourning for Luke Lyons, 31.

MILLBURN, NJ — The mourning continues for a beloved Millburn police officer who died in a car crash in Morris County last weekend, with a fundraising campaign seeking to support his family in a time of sorrow.

The crash – which took place on Route 15 in Jefferson at 1:23 a.m. on Sunday – claimed the life of Luke Lyons, 31, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and officer with the Millburn Police Department.

“Yesterday, we lost a brother, father, husband, son and a great cop,” the Millburn PBA wrote after the crash, calling it a “tragic loss that will affect all of us for the rest of our lives.”

The Millburn PBA continued:

“Please keep our brother and his family in your thoughts and prayers during these difficult times. We appreciate all the love and support we have gotten thus far. Our brother was incredibly knowledgeable, selfless and dedicated to his community. We will never be able to fill this void. Until we meet again, rest in peace Officer Luke Lyons #563 – we will take it from here, Semper Fidelis.”

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched in Lyons’ name. It seeks to raise money to aid the deceased officer’s family. Learn more or make a donation here.

A “meal train” has also been established for people who want to help the family (learn more here).

A viewing for Lyons will be held on Friday, May 24 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 Rt. 10 in Randolph. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 25 at 9 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow after the services at Graceland Memorial Park, 1900 Galloping Hill Road in Kenilworth.
