On Oct. 15, the NJ DEP issued an alert to motorists and residents in deer-heavy areas, warning that fall rutting season had begun.
“Deer are involved in thousands of collisions in New Jersey every year, with as many as half coming during the fall mating season, known as the rutting season,” the NJ DEP states on its website.
“Exercising caution will become even more important when daylight saving time ends Nov. 1, causing commutes to align with periods when deer are most active,” according to the NJ DEP.
