The Millburn Police Department issued an update on Thursday afternoon, saying it was a “swatting incident.”

According to the MPD:

“At approximately 9:30 a.m. on July 3, 2025, the Millburn Police Department received a call from an unknown individual claiming he was armed and present at Millburn High School. In response, Millburn police—along with surrounding law enforcement agencies—immediately secured the area, surrounded the school, and conducted a thorough search for any potential threat. As a precautionary measure, the school and surrounding area were evacuated. After an extensive search, no threat was found, and the report was determined to be not credible. The evacuation was maintained out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the community.”

“This appears to be a swatting incident—a malicious act involving a false report of a serious crime, such as an active shooter, with the intent of triggering a large-scale police response, including the possible deployment of SWAT teams,” Millburn police said.

“Swatting is a dangerous and illegal act that puts lives at risk and will be taken very seriously,” police added.

The Millburn Police Detective Bureau is actively investigating Thursday’s incident, authorities said.
