Short Hills Elementary School Students Celebrate Diwali

Hartshorn Elementary students celebrated the Indian New Year by dressing in traditional garb, dancing, and learning about the culture.

Hartshorn Elementary School students celebrated Diwali, this week by dressing in traditional clothing, dancing to Indian music, and learning more about cultural traditions and rituals.

Diwali is the a New Years holiday celebrated by Indians all over the world. Children from Kindergarten to fifth grade joined in on the festivities.

Hartshorn Elementary School fifth graders in Mrs. Orsini’s class played a special role in the celebration by sharing educational presentations on the holiday with the school’s first graders.

“It was wonderful having my students share information about their culture with their classmates,” Orsini said. “It was a great learning experience for the entire class.”

The students all dressed in traditional clothing, presented a slide show, shared some Indian music, dance, and the rituals that take place during this most celebrated holiday in the Indian culture.

“Our class had a wonderful experience celebrating Diwali in Mrs. Orsini’s classroom,” fellow Hartshorn teacher Adds Mrs. O’Leary expressed. “The students and I enjoyed the music, the dancing and learning about this special holiday.”
