Short Hills Events: Beat The Winter Doldrums At Greenwood Gardens

Greenwood Gardens in Short Hills is offering locals a chance to beat the winter doldrums and get out of the house at several upcoming events

SHORT HILLS, NJ — Greenwood Gardens in Short Hills is offering locals a chance to beat the winter doldrums and get out of the house with several upcoming programs this year.

According to a news release from the public garden and historic site, the following programs are slated for winter 2018. Advance registration is required for Greenwood Gardens programs. To register or learn more about Greenwood Gardens, volunteer opportunities, workshops and events, visit greenwoodgardens.org or call 973-258-4026.

January 17 and February 28: Get your Greenwood “Fix” Weather permitting, the Gardens will be open from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. both days. Enjoy warm cider, crisp, fresh air and the view of South Mountain Reservation from our Terrace. Docents will be available for guided tours. Free for Greenwood Gardens members; $10 non-members.

January 22, 29; February 5 and 12: Chair Yoga 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Learn how simple stretching from your chair can benefit your overall health, flexibility and well-being with Debby Kaminsky, founder of Newark Yoga Movement. This class is for anyone interested in yoga and perfect for beginners, or anyone with limited mobility. Single sessions are $10 for Greenwood Gardens members; $15 non-members. Register for any 4 sessions: $35 members; $55 non-members. Save when you register for 4 sessions: $35 members; $55 non-members.

January 24, February 7, March 14: Adult Coloring Club 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Unleash your inner artist while enjoying a glass of wine and conversation. All supplies will be provided or feel free to bring your own. Free to Greenwood Gardens members; $10 non-members—$25 when registering for all 3 sessions.

Tuesday, January 30: Moonlight Walk 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Experience Greenwood Gardens by the light of the second “Supermoon” of 2018! Bring your flashlights and listen for owls as you tour the Garden in the quiet of a winter evening. Free to Greenwood Gardens members; $10 non-members.

Sunday, February 25: All the Presidents’ Gardens lecture and book signing by award winning author, Marta McDowell 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Refreshingly light-hearted and nonpartisan, McDowell will reveal how the story of the presidential garden is also the story of America. She will share rare glimpses into Presidential pastimes and little-known facts of how the 18-acres surrounding the White House have been an unwitting witness to history. $25 Greenwood Gardens members; $35 non-members -- or $50 for members; $60 non-members, with book.
