Stolen Car Found At Short Hills Mall, Millburn Police Say

A driver sped away from Millburn police during another recent incident near the mall, authorities said.

MILLBURN, NJ — A stolen vehicle was located at The Mall at Short Hills earlier this month, and another incident involving a driver fleeing from police was also recently reported at the shopping center, authorities announced Monday.

The Millburn Police Department released the following details about each incident:

March 9 – A Millburn police sergeant located a 2020 Dodge Challenger with fraudulent temporary license plates parked and unoccupied at the mall. The vehicle was reported stolen out of Elizabeth in 2023. A short time later, a man returned to the vehicle and entered the driver’s seat. The driver – later identified as Waldin Dufrene, 29, of Union – was arrested. Dufrene was charged with receiving a stolen vehicle. He had active arrest warrants out of Millburn and Union township, authorities said.

March 17 – A Millburn police officer attempted to stop a 2025 Honda Accord on JFK Parkway near The Mall at Short Hills for a motor vehicle violation. The officer activated his emergency lights and sirens, but the vehicle didn’t pull over and sped away on JFK Parkway. The officer didn’t pursue the vehicle due to safety reasons. Police conducted an investigation, identifying the driver as an 18-year-old from Newark. Police arrested the driver and charged him with eluding police in a motor vehicle, authorities said.
