TBJ Short Hills Plans March Events

Purim Megillah reading, carnival for kids slated for March 4.

March will be a busy month for congregants at Temple B’nai Jeshurun in Short Hills.

The month kicks off with an Erev Shabbat Service on March 2 at 5:30 p.m. and features a sermon by Rabbi Matthew A. Reimer

The next day, a Torah study class begins at 8:45 a.m., followed by Shabbat morning services at 9:45 a.m.

But the events don’t end there.

On Sunday, March 4, a Megillah reading will be held at 11 a.m. The Megillah is a scroll that recounts the ancient story of the Jewish holiday of Purim. The scroll recounts the story of the Persian Jews and a decree by the king’s minister Haman to kill all the country’s Jews.

The reading, geared to children in kindergarten through fifth grade, will then be followed by the temple’s Purim Carnival, featuring games and fun for everyone beginning at 11:30 a.m.

There will be a $25 per family charge and Eppes Essen will be on hand with lunches on sale.

The Temple Youth Group, JeshTY, is sponsoring the carnival under the supervision of TBJ Assistant Religious School Director Christina Broussard and TYG Advisor Sarah Silversten
