Volunteers Deliver Passover Packages To Homebound NJ Residents

Older adults and Holocaust survivors throughout Essex, Morris and northern Union counties got a friendly holiday visit ahead of Passover.

NEW JERSEY — Volunteers with Jewish Family Service of MetroWest NJ (JFS) recently delivered Passover packages and meals to homebound older adults and Holocaust survivors throughout Essex, Morris and northern Union counties.

Volunteers from Verona, Short Hills and Dover – among other towns – made deliveries on Friday ahead of the start of Passover.

In total, volunteers distributed 105 holiday packages that were put together by the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ. The packages included cleaning supplies, macarons, potato starch, a matzo ball soup kit, tuna fish, grape juice and matzo squares.

Additionally, 150 holiday meals were provided through the generosity of a private donor, JFS said. These meals featured traditional Passover dishes, including brisket with gravy, health salad, tzimmes, broccoli and macaroons.

The JFS supports older adults and Holocaust survivors in the community by providing essential services, holiday meals and “social connection.” For more information on its programs or to get involved, click here.

Social services for Jewish Nazi victims have been supported by a grant from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany. Holocaust services are made possible by a grant from The JFNA Center on Holocaust Survivor Care and Institute on Aging and Trauma, Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ, Jewish Community Foundation of Greater MetroWest NJ, KAVOD SHEF in partnership with Seed the Dream Foundation, The Sephardic Foundation on Aging, the State of New Jersey, the Wilf Family Foundation, and other generous donors.
