Election Results For NJ-27: Wins For McKeon, Bagolie, Collazos-Gill

Candidates were John McKeon and Michael Byrne (Senate), and Rosy Bagolie, Alixon Collazos-Gill, Irene DeVita, Michael Mecca Jr. (Assembly).

NEW JERSEY — New Jersey voters cast ballots in races across the state on Tuesday, including contests for senate and assembly seats in the 27th District. Polling places closed at 8 p.m.

In the Senate’s 27th District, incumbent John McKeon (Democrat) faced a challenge from Michael Byrne (Republican).

With 97 percent of votes reported, McKeon has been declared as the winner. Here are the uncertified results as per the Associated Press and NJ Spotlight News (one open seat):

  • John McKeon – 24,837 votes (69.6%)
  • Michael Byrne – 10,867 votes (30.4%)

In the Assembly’s 27th District, Irene DeVita and Michael Mecca Jr. were on the ballot for the Republican Party. Alixon Collazos-Gill and Rosy Bagolie ran on the Democratic Party ticket.

With 93 percent of votes reported, Bagolie and Collazos-Gill have been declared as the winners. Here are the uncertified results as per the Associated Press and NJ Spotlight News (two open seats):

  • Irene DeVita – 11,135 votes (16.0%)
  • Michael Mecca Jr. – 10,978 votes (15.8%)
  • Alixon Collazos-Gill – 23,704 votes (34.1%)
  • Rosy Bagolie – 23,755 votes (34.1%)

This is the first general election that is being held using the 2023 Legislative district map that was approved last year. The redistricting effort – done once every 10 years –shuffled some towns around, putting them in different districts and giving them new elected representatives in the Statehouse. The 27th District now includes the municipalities of Livingston, Millburn, Montclair, Roseland and West Orange in Essex County, and Clifton in Passaic County.
