23-year-old Woman Dies on Flight to Newark Airport

The passenger traveling on a United Airlines flight from London was not contagious. She was pronounced dead on the plane Monday night.

A 23-year-old woman died while traveling on a United Airlines flight from London Heathrow to Newark Liberty International Airport on Monday night, Port Authority Officials report.

The passenger reportedly had preexisting medical conditions and was not contagious. Passengers were not at risk, according to a statement made by Port Authority spokesman Joe Pentangelo, as reported by NJ.com.

The woman was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m. Monday before the flight landed at Newar at 9:45 p.m., where her body was taken to the medical examiner’s office to determine the cause of death, NorthJersey.com reports.

A doctor who was a passenger on United Flight 115 attempted to help the woman when she became unconscious, according to the Guardian.

“We offer our condolences to the passenger’s family,” Mary Ryan, a spokesperson with United Airlines, said in an email to NJ.com. “For privacy reasons, it would not be appropriate for us to comment further.”

As of Tuesday morning, the identity of the passenger had not been released.
