3 Vehicle Crimes In Montclair: Stolen Car, Break-In, Arrest

Several motor vehicle-related crimes were recently reported in Montclair, police said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Several motor vehicle-related crimes were reported in Montclair last week, police announced Monday.

The Montclair Police Department released the following details about three incidents that recently took place in the township:

Oct. 8 (Montclair Avenue) – A vehicle owner reported that his 2016 Volkswagen Jetta was entered during the overnight hours. A cashier’s check for $4,900 was stolen from an envelope in the center console, police said.

Oct. 9 (Undercliff Road) – During an overnight patrol near the area of Undercliff Road, officers encountered an Acura sedan that was reported stolen from Roselle. The vehicle was driving in tandem with a red Honda Accord, whose occupants were all wearing masks. When the cars’ occupants saw the police car, both vehicles sped away south on Undercliff Road, police said.

Oct. 11 (Draper Terrace) – Officers were called to the south end of the township on a report of vehicles being entered. While patrolling, officers saw a person that matched the description of the suspect on Draper Terrace. The suspect – a 34-year-old male from Brooklyn, NY – was in possession of proceeds stolen from a vehicle on Orange Road and a residential burglary that also took place on Orange Road. He was charged with two counts of burglary and released, police said.
