8th Annual Fitzgerald's 1928 Lager Run to Take Place June 22

The 5K benefits the Glen Ridge Community Fund.

Lace up your running shoes or come cheer the runners at next weekend's eighth annual Fitzgerald's 1928 Lager Run to benefit the Glen Ridge Community Fund on Sunday, June 22.

Boiling Springs Savings Bank is back as the presenting sponsor for the 7th year in a row and more than 1,000 runners are expected for this annual event.

The 5K race winds through the beautiful streets of Glen Ridge starting at 6:15 p.m. on Sunday June 22. Fitzgerald's 1928 on Herman Street will host the post race party serving water, soda, pretzels and beer from the Brooklyn Brewery.

Veteran race director Dan Murphy returns this year and expects more than 1,000 racers, last year's race had 1,150 runners despite muggy temperatures.  The USATF-NJ Masters Men 5000 Championship is a fast, six turn route along the tree lined streets of Glen Ridge, ending with a track finish at Hurrell Field.  The race will be held rain or shine and is open to runners, joggers, strollers and walkers.

The race fee is $24 for Glen Ridge residents and USATF-NJ members before June 14, 2014 and $27 for everyone else. There are 55 family sponsors for this year's race.

Runners can register online at www.CompuScore.com or mail entries to The Glen Ridge Community Fund, P.O. Box 27, Glen Ridge, NJ 07028.  The fee after June 14thand on race day is $30 for each runner.

All proceeds from the event go to the Glen Ridge Community Fund, an all-volunteer section 501 (c) (3) organization which supports local social services for Glen Ridge residents.          Last year GRCF donated more than $20,000 to charities supporting Glen Ridge residents.
