Car Crimes Reported In Montclair: Stolen Vehicle, Work Van Theft

MPD: A car owner left her vehicle parked with the engine running. When she returned from Starbucks, a man was driving away with it.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Two motor vehicle-related crimes were reported in Montclair last week, authorities announced Tuesday.

The Montclair Police Department released the following details about each incident:

December 1 (South Park Street) – A driver told officers that she left her 2023 Audi Q5 parked on South Park Street with the engine running and keys inside. When she returned from Starbucks a few moments later, she saw a man in a mask driving away with her car. It was recovered the next day in Newark, police said.

December 2 (Stonebridge Road) – The victims of a theft reported that they were on the job at a Stonebridge Road property and heard a vehicle speeding away from their work van. Believing their van was entered, they checked the interior, finding that two bags that had been left on the front seat were missing. The bags contained clothing and credit cards, police said.
