Car Swiped From Montclair Home, Stolen Vehicle Left In Its Place: Police

The thief (or thieves) entered the home through a front door that had a faulty lock, police said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A home burglary involving a stolen car was reported in Montclair on Tuesday, authorities say.

According to the Montclair Police Department, an Inwood Avenue resident said his 2019 Audi Q5 was stolen from the driveway overnight.

The suspect or suspects got into the home through a front door that had a faulty lock. Once inside, they took the keys to the Audi off a kitchen counter, then fled the scene with the car – leaving a 2013 Hyundai Sonata in its place.

The Sonata was found to have been stolen out of Newark, police said.

The stolen Audi was later used to commit a residential burglary in Closter, police added.
