Co-Owner Of Tierney’s Tavern In Montclair Dies At 52

James "Jim" Patrick Tierney was often seen "cooking the best burger in Montclair" or serving drinks at Tierney's Tavern.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — James “Jim” Patrick Tierney, the co-owner of one of Montclair’s most well-known taverns, recently died at the age of 52.

Tierney, who spent many days either “cooking the best burger in Montclair” or serving drinks at the eponymously named Tierney’s Tavern, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 30, his obituary states.

“Jim was born and raised in Montclair and graduated from Montclair High School in 1988. He was a proud co-owner of Tierney’s Tavern, and spent his days either cooking the best burger in Montclair or serving drinks ... Jim loved playing the guitar, listening to music, the New York Yankees, the New York Giants and the Brooklyn Nets, but was most proud of his three children.”

The obituary continued:

“In lieu of flowers, the family wants to keep Jim’s love of music alive by giving the gift of music to the next generation and asks that you consider making a donation in his name to Jazz House Kids.”
