Dog Alerts Montclair Resident To Home Burglary: Police

A Montclair resident woke up at night when he heard his dog barking and running around the house. Here's what he saw, police said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A Montclair resident’s dog alerted him to a burglary on Tuesday, but not before the thief managed to take about $300 in cash from his home, authorities said.

According to the Montclair Police Department, a Highland Avenue resident said he heard his dog barking and running around the house around 3:30 a.m. The resident went downstairs and saw that a rear, sliding glass door was unlocked. About $300 in cash was missing from a wallet that was in a bowl on his kitchen island, police said.

Other residents of Highland Avenue reported a suspicious person running through their backyards at that time, police said.
