GLEN RIDGE, NJ — As a nod to its patron saint, a church in Essex County recently held a “blessing of the animals” for the local community.

St. Francis of Assisi American National Catholic Church, at 195 Ridgewood Ave. in Glen Ridge, said the event was held to honor St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and ecology.
