Famed ‘Iron Chef’ Lends His Celebrity To New Restaurant In Montclair

A Japanese restaurant that showcases the culinary talents of famed "Iron Chef" Masaharu Morimoto will soon launch in Montclair.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A new Japanese restaurant that showcases the culinary talents of a famed “Iron Chef” will soon launch in Montclair.

On Monday, the Montclair Hospitality Group announced a highly-anticipated lease signing for their debut location of MM by Morimoto at 193 Glenridge Avenue. A big name in the foodie world is attached to the new eatery: Masaharu Morimoto of “Iron Chef” fame.

The new eatery will have more than 200 seats – ample space to showcase Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto's unique culinary vision, blending traditional Japanese flavors with a modern twist.

“MM by Morimoto’s menu will include newly-developed appetizers and entrees. Steak enthusiasts can look forward to Chef’s new grill and protein program to be announced soon. The Omakase Bar and Dining Room Omakase menu promises a curated culinary experience, while the sushi and sashimi selection offers an extensive array, as part of the quality-focused program which includes Chef Morimoto's latest innovative dishes. MM by Morimoto’s Montclair location will feature a full bar menu with handcrafted cocktails, an extensive wine list, and a selection of sakes and beers. Sushi boxes to go will also be available, allowing patrons to savor Morimoto’s culinary delights anywhere. To meet a variety of preferences, MM by Morimoto will additionally offer on and off-premise catering options.”

“I'm happy to announce one of our first major concepts in the heart of Montclair, New Jersey,” the Iron Chef said of his latest business endeavor.

“I have been eager to bring my cuisine to this vibrant community, and Montclair Hospitality Group is the ideal partner to make that vision a reality,” Morimoto said of his new partners.

“Their focus on creating innovative hospitality experiences mirrors the philosophy I have at my restaurants,” Morimoto added.

Local foodies may recognize the Montclair Hospitality Group as the group behind other North Jersey restaurants, such as Ani Ramen, pastaRAMEN (by James Beard-nominated Chef Robbie Felice) and Fatto Con Amore.

“We're beyond excited to have Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto opening his first MM by Morimoto with our team in Montclair this year,” founder Luck Sarabhayavanija said.

“It's a career milestone happening ten years since we opened Ani Ramen on Bloomfield Avenue and truly is a dream come true,” Sarabhayavanija enthused.

The news of MM by Morimoto's impending launch also got a thumbs-up from developer Dick Grabowsky, who owns the building where the new restaurant is located.

"The Iron Chef is known around the world - not only for fabulous food, but also as an elegant, upscale, dining experience," Grabowsky said. "All the ambiance of four-star dining will be right here. There is no need to go into Manhattan."

"This is truly the right tenant in the right space in the right town and at the right time," Grabowsky added. "We’re flattered that Chef Morimoto has chosen Montclair."
