Farewell To ‘Buddy’: Montclair Tavern Mourns Loss Of Co-Owner
Edward Tierney was a proud co-owner of Tierney's Tavern, where he served his famous "Buddy Burger."
MONTCLAIR, NJ — One of Montclair’s most well-known taverns is mourning its second big loss in as many years.
Edward R. Tierney, also known as “Buddy,” peacefully passed away at home on March 16 at the age of 54, according to his obituary.
A real estate practitioner with Coldwell Banker, Tierney was also the proud co-owner of the eponymously named Tierney’s Tavern on Valley Road, where he served his famous “Buddy Burger.”

“Buddy attended St. Cassian Church, St. Cassian School, was a 1986 graduate of Montclair High School and attended Montclair State College. He practiced Real Estate with Coldwell Banker. Working in the kitchen at the Tavern provided him the joy of service. He was the proud Owner of Tierney’s Tavern where he served his famous “Buddy Burger”. The Edward R. Tierney Association stands for charity, civics, and sports. He was a member of The Montclair Knights of Columbus 1277. He enjoyed bowling at the Montclair Commonwealth Club and golf with the Montclair Lions Club (President 2004-2005). He especially enjoyed watching his teams: Notre Dame, The Giants, NJ Devils, Brooklyn Nets and The Yankees. Buddy looked forward to the annual fishing trip with his cousins. God first, family second. Buddy was very generous, funny and always had a smile for you. He loved people and people loved him.”
A celebration of life will take place Monday, March 28 at Immaculate Conception Church in Montclair. It will begin with a wake from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by a Catholic Mass at 12:30 p.m. and burial at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Upper Montclair.
