How to Throw a Gatsby-Inspired Party

Sharon Sevrens and Wesley Kirk — owner and manager of Amanti Vino in Montclair — can help you celebate with a Gatsby-inspired soire.

The duo woke up early Thursday to talk 1920s-style cocktails on a segment on CBS 2 News.

“I reread The Great Gatsby and I’m here to tell you that they drank a lot, early and often,” said Sevrens, dressed in a black feather boa and flapper dress.

Popular cocktails of the day, she said, included the Mint Julep, Gin Rickey and a Manhattan. Champagne and claret were also very much in vogue.

Kirk demonstrated how to make "The Amanti Twist" — gin, chartreuse liquor, simple syrup and 7-Up, and a couple of dashes of lavender bitters.

The fifth film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic American novel stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby. It will be shown at the Bellevue Theatreat 4, 7 and 10 p.m. Friday.
