IMANI Program to Celebrate Students with New Awards, Scholarships

Join the Imani Program this coming Sunday as they recognize students K-12 for their accomplishments during the 2013-14 school year.

For the first time, the Imani End of the Year Celebration will act as an awards ceremony, as well as a culmination of programs and events. The celebration will be filled with awards presentations, speakers and performances.

The event will be held Sunday June 8 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.  at the Charles H. Bullock Elementary School located at 55 Washington Street, Montclair NJ 07042.

Awards will be presented to all MINI Imani participants in grades K-5. Similarly, all seniors will also receive special awards.

Representatives from each of Imani’s programs such as MINI Imani (grades K-5,) Middle Imani (grades 6-8,) Study Groups (grades 9-12) and SAT Prep Class (grades 10-12) will present awards and certificates to participants and to those who have demonstrated outstanding performance. Parent volunteers will also be acknowledged for their contributions to the program.

The Imani seniors will be invited to the stage to share with the audience the colleges and universities they have been accepted to, and the college or university they plan to attend.

As a showcase of talents, renowned Jazz vocalist Saundra Silliman and her daughter Cameron, MHS senior, will perform for the audience.

Testimonials will be delivered by Imani parents and students, recognizing the program for its help in preparing students for life after primary and secondary education.

Additionally, formal remarks will be delivered by Dominique Saint-Fort, a 2005 graduate of MHS. She received her B.A. and B.S. from Howard University in 2009 and J.D. from St. Johns Law School in 2012. She now works for the New York State Court of Appeals as a Senior Court Attorney.

Luis Schuchinski will present two select students with scholarship awards on behalf of the program. Both of the students were selected based on their participation in Imani Programs and growth and development over the years.

There will be a reception before the program and guests are invited to hang around after.
