Other students receiving a $1,000 scholarship include Yanick Couture of Montclair Kimberley Academy, who will attend Columbia University; Kirra Meertens of Immaculate Conception; and Maura Jones of Lacordaire Academy, who will attend Seton Hall University.

Lions Club members said the students were chosen from a pool of candidates recommended by their schools' counselors.

The students all displayed not just academic achievement, but also talent in athletics and involvement in their communities.

The Lions Club is a long-time service organization with approximately 16 members.
