Lunch in Montclair: Comfort Food Kitchen

Plan to stop in next time you are in Watchung Plaza or place an order when you don't have time to cook.

Normally I wouldn't write about my lunch.

But my lunch is not normally an incredible curried chicken salad with arugula served on cranberry walnut bread.

So I thought I would tell you about Comfort Food Kitchen in case you are not among the lucky ones to have stumbled upon this low-key eatery in Watchung Plaza.

Comfort Food Kitchen opened a little less than a year ago right next door to Watchung Booksellers at 54 Fairfield St.

The business founded by chef Suzanne Michaud offers take-away dinners for busy singles and families, lunch and prepared foods, catering and cooking classes.

The take-away dinners work something like this. Each week a new menu is released and orders can be placed online by 10 p.m. the night before or by calling 973-744-2244 by 3 p.m. the day of and they'll do their best to accommodate your order.

This week's menu includes a roasted beet salad ($6.95) and chilled carrot ginger soup ($4.95) for starters.

Entrees range from a grilled pesto shrimp with roasted vegetable quinoa and haricots verts salad ($18.95) to a pasta primavera ($13.95). Kids meals and desserts are also on the menu.

The lunch specials this week consisted of an assortment of sandwiches and salads that could be taken out or enjoyed in a warm dining area which feels like you are sitting in a good friend's home.

Even the drink options are fresh and enticing. I chose a blueberry lemonade which was not too tart or too sweet.

There's a lot more to know and to try at Comfort Food Kitchen so I will be back. For a bigger taste of what they have to offer visit www.comfortfoodkitchen.com.

Actually, I kind of liked writing about lunch. Any suggestions where I should try next? Tell us in the comments.
