Montclair Bear Bares All on Twitter

@MontclairBear1 pops up on Twitter day after black bear tranquilized and relocated from town.

What does a bear do when he wakes up from a tranquilizer nap far from home? Apparently, he creates a Twitter account.

The day after a black bear cub climbed up a tree and was captured in a Montclair park earlier this month, @MontclairBear1 wrote his first Tweet: "I thought Montclair was known for its diversity. Apparently Bears need not apply."

Two weeks later, Montclair Bear has nearly 100 followers and something to say on a variety of subjects, from the weather to the Montclair Film Festival.

The real Montclair Bear was popular from the start, attracting dozens of spectators who photographed and recorded the unusual suburban sight from behind yellow police tape at Watchung Park.

The cub was contained in a tree for several hours by police banging hammers and branches to keep him from coming down until folks from the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife showed up. They shot him with a tranquilizer gun and within minutes became woozy and fell out of the tree.

Officials later said the 18-month-old male cub weighed about 158 lbs. He was tattooed, tagged and transported to a state forest.

Since then, we've learned Montclair Bear is not just cute, he's funny, too.

When asked if he was also on FourSquare, he said, "The last thing I need is for more people to know my whereabouts."

He complained the rain was making his fur a frizzy mess and told Whole Foods he'd be coming to a free yoga class. "Sexy yoga ladies in Lululemon tights? Grrr!!!!"

Montclair Bear also tweeted a special message for Father's Day: "Give your Pops a great big Bear Hug today," and, naturally, had a lot to say about his buddy meeting a similiar fate in Verona Friday night: "You may have taken my buddy, but Montclair Bear is a free bear suckas."
