Montclair-based nonprofits Vietnamese Boat People and AAPI New Jersey (aka AAPI Montclair) are proud to present a special screening of the award-winning documentary “New Wave,” capturing the reinvention and resilience of the Vietnamese diaspora.

2025 marks 50 years since the Fall of Saigon—a moment that forever shaped the Vietnamese diaspora. As we reflect on this anniversary, we are honoring the resilience, sacrifice, and enduring contributions of the Vietnamese-American community through a series of storytelling events leading up to the Vietnamese Boat People’s traveling exhibition, "Our Journeys," debuting in New York City this September.
New Wave delves into the vibrant culture and enduring spirit of the Vietnamese community, offering an intimate look at their journey and contributions. The film debuted at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival taking home the Albert Maysles Award for Best New Documentary Director and a Special Jury Mention. Following the screening, attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage in a Q&A session with the film's director, providing deeper insights into the documentary's creation and themes.
