Montclair Hospital Uses AI Technology To Treat Heart Disease
"Artificial intelligence is transforming health care, particularly in coronary artery disease."

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A hospital in Montclair is using the power of artificial intelligence to diagnose and treat heart disease.
Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center recently reported that the hospital began using two “state-of-the-art” artificial intelligence (AI) technologies: the HeartFlow FFRCT Analysis, and the CathWorks FFRangio System.
“Artificial intelligence is transforming health care, particularly in coronary artery disease,” chief medical officer Valerie Allusson said.

According to a news release from the hospital, here’s what the new technology does:
- “The HeartFlow FFRCT Analysis uses advanced AI to transform data from a standard coronary computed tomography angiogram (CTA) into a 3D model of a patient’s coronary arteries. This model calculates fractional flow reserve (FFRCT) values, enabling clinicians to visualize arterial blockages and understand their impact on blood flow.”
- “The CathWorks FFRangio System complements the HeartFlow technology by assessing coronary physiology during catheterization using AI-driven analysis of routine angiograms. This approach eliminates the need for additional invasive tools or medication.”
“The adoption of these AI-powered tools represents a significant milestone in our pursuit of excellence in cardiac care,” said Ankitkumar Patel, medical director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.

“They allow us to make faster, more precise decisions that are tailored to each patient, providing a new level of precision and innovation for our community,” Patel added.
Among other hospitals in the Hackensack Meridian Health network, HeartFlow technology is also utilized at Hackensack University Medical Center, Palisades Medical Center, JFK University Medical Center, Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Riverview Medical Center, Bayshore Medical Center, Raritan Bay Medical Center, and Old Bridge Medical Center. CathWorks technology is available at Hackensack University Medical Center, Jersey Shore University Medical Center, and JFK University Medical Center.
