Montclair Man Suffers ‘Medical Issue’ On New Hampshire Hike
A Montclair resident called 911 after he started feeling sick on a long hike in New Hampshire, authorities said. Here's what happened next.
MONTCLAIR, NJ — Rescue teams recently came to the aid of a Montclair resident after he suffered a “medical issue” while hiking in New Hampshire, authorities say.
According to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, the incident took place around 2 p.m. on Friday, when a 59-year-old man from Montclair was descending from the summit of Mt. Chocorua with six family members.
“He was over 2.5 miles from the trailhead when he began feeling sick and could no longer continue hiking,” authorities said in a news release. “After resting and showing no signs of improvement, they phoned 911 for assistance.”

Here’s what happened next, authorities said:
“Along with conservation officers, members of the U.S. Forest Service, SOLO students, Lakes Region Search and Rescue and the Conway Fire Ambulance responded. While volunteers were arriving, [the hiker’s] condition improved enough for him to begin walking on his own. He was met on the trail by SOLO students who walked with him back to the trailhead. [He] arrived back at the trailhead shortly before 7 p.m., where he was evaluated by members of Conway Fire Department and then transported by ambulance to the Memorial Hospital in North Conway for treatment.”
