Montclair Nails Down ‘Healthy Town’ Designation
The awards recognize towns that "promote exercise, healthy eating, and mental health education and awareness in the community."
MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair was recently selected by the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute as one of the latest Mayors Wellness Campaign “Healthy Town” winners.
According to a municipal news release, “Healthy Town” designations are awarded to cities and towns that demonstrate excellence in providing health and wellness initiatives in their respective communities by maintaining programs that “promote exercise, healthy eating, and mental health education and awareness in the community.”

Montclair Mayor Renee Baskerville, a pediatrician and family medicine doctor, said she has seen the “critical impact of investing in public health” firsthand.
“Our township is deeply committed to public health and creating environments that promote healthy lifestyles, equity and sustainability,” Baskerville said. “This includes initiatives like community gardens and farmer’s markets for healthy food access, being a walkable community with safe streets for cyclists and pedestrians, maintaining 170 acres of park space, and several sustainability initiatives to reduce negative environmental effects.”

The mayor credited the Health and Human Services Department and its director, Amy Monaco, for their “dedication and tireless efforts.”
