Montclair Resident Earns Emmy Nod For Her Work On ‘Patrice: The Movie’

The documentary tells the story of a disabled couple who want to get married – but would lose their health insurance if they do.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Move over, Stephen Colbert – Montclair has a second link to the 2025 Emmy Awards: Innbo Shim.

“Patrice: The Movie” (Hulu) captured a Primetime Emmy Award for Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking at last weekend’s ceremony.

The documentary follows Patrice Jetter and Garry Wickham, a disabled couple navigating the harsh realities of U.S. laws that penalize them for wanting to get married – and potentially lose their health insurance. Learn more here, and watch the official trailer here.

Directed by Ted Passon, the film tapped the talents of several producers, including Shim – a Montclair resident.

Shim’s role was pivotal in shaping the film’s narrative and bringing its deeply personal and socially urgent themes to life. Her production credits span major platforms like Netflix, ABC News Studios, Hulu, CNN Films, Discovery, A&E Films, National Geographic and PBS.

Some Montclair residents may recognize Jetter, a Hamilton Township resident who was a was a longtime crossing guard at Hillside Elementary School.

Other nominated films this year included “I Am: Celine Dion” and “The Remarkable Life of Ibelin.”
