Here’s some background about Mesob and its founders:
“Sisters Berekti and Akberet ‘Aki’ Mengistu founded Mesob in 2003, never expecting it to become the beloved institution it is today. Encouraged by family and friends to share the flavors of their homeland at a time when Ethiopian cuisine was still relatively unknown in Essex County, they took a leap of faith. Neither had restaurant experience -- Berekti had an engineering background, and Aki had managed the family’s trucking business in Ethiopia. But they deeply loved their culture and food, so they set out to create something unique. They chose downtown Montclair, just as it was emerging as a dining destination, and poured their hearts into Mesob.”
