Montclair Sees 3 Home Intrusions In 3-Day Span: Police
A woman was putting her kids to bed when she heard footsteps coming from downstairs. Here's what happened next, police say.
MONTCLAIR, NJ — Two home burglaries and an attempted burglary were reported over a three-day span last week in Montclair, authorities say.
The Montclair Police Department released the following details about each incident:
Nov. 26 (Pleasant Avenue) – “Officers responded to a Pleasant Avenue residence on a report of a burglary that had just occurred. The resident reported that at approximately 9 p.m., she was on the second floor of her home putting her two other children to sleep. She heard what appeared to be footsteps coming from the first floor of her home. The resident began to make her way down the staircase when her alarm system went off. She then observed her rear door to her home completely open. The resident reported that she did not observe the suspect(s).”

Nov. 28 (Undercliff Road) – “At approximately 6:16 a.m., an Undercliff Road resident reported two individuals attempting to enter his home. He stated that he observed the suspects on his security camera at the front of the house attempting to enter the front door. Unable to, the suspects walked down the walkway on the north side of the house and into the backyard. Once in the backyard, the suspects attempted to access the home through two windows located under the deck as well as the lower rear door. The suspects were also seen pulling on the door handles of three vehicles that were parked in the driveway. The suspects were described as two males, one wearing all black clothing and a black face mask. The other was described as wearing a gray or white hooded sweatshirt, black pants, a black mask and white shoes.”
Nov. 28 (Plymouth Street) – “The resident reported that he was away from his home but was actively observing three individuals inside of his residence through his home surveillance system. The suspects were wearing hooded sweatshirts, sweatpants, and gloves. They were able to locate the keys to a 2023 Mercedes G Wagon and a 2025 BMW X5. The suspects fled the scene with both vehicles. Responding officers located the Mercedes at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Cedar Avenue unoccupied after it had become disabled when it struck a curb. The BMW remains missing. Entry into the home appears to have been made through a first-floor window.”
