MONTCLAIR, NJ — The Montclair Animal Shelter is trying to rehome two beloved pets who lost their guardian in a tragic car crash earlier this month.

According to police, a truck hit a 27-year-old Irvington woman as she was standing outside her disabled car on I-80. She sustained fatal injuries in the crash, which took place near the Pennsylvania border. See Related: NJ Woman Killed Along I-80 After Semi Truck Hits Her, State Police Say

Since then, the departed woman’s pets have been taken in at the Montclair shelter, where they are available for adoption.

According to a recent social media post from the shelter:

“Some days we're called upon to help animals who were loved and cared for but they lost their person / caretaker. Please meet Rocky and Frankie. Roxy is a 7-month-old pup. Frankie is an 18-month-old male kitty. This dynamic duo lost their mom the other day on Route 80 in a terrible accident. We felt compelled to help them. All the shelters are full, we had to make room to help them! The puppy was in the vehicle and witnessed the tragedy. We're gonna help them heal mentally and emotionally. They will be fully vetted, vaccines, neutered, worming, testing, microchips, and of course whatever else they might need.”
