Non-essential town operations have been shut down in Montclair, officials said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair Town Hall closed early on Thursday due to a severe weather forecast and state of emergency in New Jersey.
A state of emergency has been declared in New Jersey ahead of strong storms that may cause flash flooding. Rainfall totals of one to three inches are generally expected, with localized amounts of five to seven inches possible. The state of emergency went into effect at 2 p.m.

In Montclair, the municipal building was closed for the rest of the day on Thursday. Non-essential town operations have been shut down, officials said.
“Residents are advised to stay indoors and off the roads, if possible,” Montclair public safety officials said.

A social media user posted a video of flash flooding that took place in the township. The video, filmed from inside a vehicle, shows surging waters that swirl around a local driveway.
