Motorcycle Rider From Montclair Killed In Crash In The Oranges

A vehicle making a turn struck a motorcycle in Essex County, authorities said.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A fatal crash claimed the life of a motorcyclist from Essex County last week, authorities say.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the two-vehicle crash took place near Thomas Boulevard and Hayward Street in Orange around 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Police determined that a vehicle was traveling on Thomas Boulevard (northbound) and making a right-hand turn onto Hayward Street (eastbound) when it struck a motorcycle.

The motorcycle rider – Mark Elder, 52, of Montclair – was transported to University Hospital in Newark. He was pronounced dead around 8:30 p.m.

The driver of the other vehicle remained at the scene, authorities said.
