Murphy Sisters Era Near An End With MKA Field Hockey

...Shea and Maggie Murphy have been integral part of Cougars' success

Montclair resident Shea Murphy along with her twin sister Maggie have been two of the key players for the Montclair Kimberley Academy field hockey program for the past four years while leading the Cougar stickers to three straight prep tournament championships heading into the Monday, Nov. 3, 2025 prep B final at Pennington.

Shea, Maggie, Julia Flocco, also of Montclair, and Glen Ridge resident Addie Goldstein have served as senior quad captains this season for MKA, which reached the finals of the Essex County Tournament against state power West Essex.

"We have 10 seniors on the team this year - almost half the team- and with their graduation in June there will certainly be holes to fill," said veteran MKA field hockeym coach Injoo Han. "With 4-year starters in the Murphys and Addie Goldstein among the seniors who will graduate, it will definitely be a transition in terms of underclassmen having to step up next year."

Shea entered recent action with 6 goals and 5 assists for 17 points while sister Maggie had 3 goals and 9 assists fore 15 points. The sisters also star for the MKA girls lacrosse team in the spring.

MKA entered November with a 13-7 record and will be the No. 2 seed in the NJSIAA Non-Public, North state tournament. The Cougars host 15th-seeded Pope John in the first round on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
