No-Cost Energy Consultations Launch In 5 Essex County Towns
There may be some home improvement tips that Essex County residents can use to put more money in their wallets, a coalition says.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — It isn’t getting any cheaper to keep the lights on, power your air conditioners and keep it warm in the winter. But there may be some simple home improvement tips that Essex County residents can use to lessen the financial pain in the meanwhile – and help the environment at the same time, a coalition says.
Montclair, Maplewood, South Orange, Verona and Glen Ridge – all members of the Sustainable Essex Alliance (SEA) – recently announced the launch of a new pilot initiative: the SEA Energy Solutions program.
Through the program, residents within the five communities can get a “no-cost, no-obligation” virtual energy consultation from a specialist, who will see if there are ways they can improve their homes to reduce energy consumption.

“Older homes are particularly vulnerable to increased energy consumption and rising energy costs. Many are poorly insulated, have high levels of air infiltration, inefficient heating and AC systems. Energy efficiency assessments can identify sources of poor air quality and other safety and comfort issues in the home that can be addressed in recommended energy efficiency upgrades.”
Montclair Mayor Sean Spiller said he was excited that the town can take part in the program.
“Whether people want to make their homes more comfortable or simply save money and the environment, this program offers many benefits to them as well as to our community,” Spiller said.
