“Since 2016, NEEC and its network of volunteers have been working at the community level to protect the environment and promote local sustainability and food security. In 2024, NEEC’s five community gardens in Montclair and Passaic raised over 8,000 pounds of produce for donation to local food programs, including MESH, Montclair Inn, and Human Needs Food Pantry. NEEC's 18 free little food pantries, situated in Cedar Grove, East Orange, Bloomfield, Clifton, and Montclair, offer free shelf-stable groceries 24/7 to those in need. Three beautiful NEEC pollinator gardens -- located at Montclair’s Crane Park, Essex County’s Brookdale Park, and First Congregational Church in Montclair -- provide essential habitat for beneficial insects and other wildlife. Through conferences, workshops, internships, and site tours of our projects, NEEC spreads the word about environmental action and mutual aid.”

“Community is the backbone of what we do, so it is important that we take time to celebrate with good food and great people, and together we hope to raise necessary funds to continue our work,” said Jose German-Gomez, CEO and founder of NEEC.
