MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair residents with a green thumb can get a jump on this year’s gardening at two upcoming plant sales in the township.
Montclair Community Farms will hold its sixth annual plant sale from May 1 to May 3.
The Master Gardeners of Essex County will conduct their annual sale on May 2 and May 3 in Montclair.

Montclair Community Farms’ sixth annual sale will take place at 108 Orange Road on the following days (learn more here):
- Thursday, May 1 - (9am to 8pm)
- Friday May 2 - (9am to 5pm)
- Saturday May 3 - (9am to 1pm, or until sold out)
Here’s what to expect, event organizers said:
“Shop unique vegetables and flowers, all grown by our dedicated team and volunteers right here in Montclair at the Van Vleck-Turner greenhouse thanks to the support and generosity of the Montclair Foundation. All proceeds support our mission of providing affordable food access and educating the community.”
“We will also be at the Montclair Farmer’s Market on May 10 selling our plants for those who were not able to make the in-person plant sale,” the nonprofit added.

MASTER GARDENERS
The Master Gardeners of Essex County will conduct their annual plant sale on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3 in Upper Montclair.
The nonprofit will also hold a plant sale in Roseland on Saturday, May 10.
Here’s what to expect, organizers said:
“The sale will feature Master Gardener grown tomato plants, peppers, eggplant, culinary herbs, lettuces and more. A robust selection of perennials, native plants, shrubs and woodies will also be offered. Roses curated by the Brookdale Park Rose Garden project will be available as well as locally produced honey from the organization’s beekeeper. The sale will include arrangements of decoratively potted plants and honey-related items that provide unique Mother’s Day gift ideas. Trained horticultural volunteers will be on hand to provide gardening and plant advice during the event.”
The Upper Montclair sale will be held at the Presby Memorial Iris Garden, 474 Upper Montclair Avenue on Friday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Saturday May 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Roseland sale will take place on Saturday, May 10 at the Essex County Environmental Center’s Garibaldi Hall, 621A Eagle Rock Avenue from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Master Gardeners of Essex County is a nonprofit organization under the aegis of the Rutgers Master Gardener program. Trained volunteers provide horticultural education to the community as well as conduct volunteer activity in many Essex County gardens and public spaces.
