Plant Sales In Montclair: Nurture Your Green Thumb At 3 Local Events

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Looking for a chance to nurture your green thumb in Montclair? There are three local events taking place this week that you may want to keep on your calendar.

Plant sales are taking place at Van Vleck Gardens, Presby Memorial Iris Garden and Montclair Community Farms. Learn more about each sale below.

VAN VLECK

Van Vleck Gardens will hold its annual spring plant sale fundraiser from May 3 to May 5 this year at 21 Van Vleck Street in Montclair. Learn more here.

According to a news release:

“Our popular Spring Plant Sale always has a wide variety of stunning plants to make your garden beautiful. We have annuals, perennials, herbs, planters and more. The sale is free to visit and is held on The Bingham Formal Garden lawn rain or shine. The rest of the stunning gardens are open dawn to dusk daily so take a stroll around the property to get inspired before you take home some gorgeous plants from the sale. All proceeds fund the maintenance of our free-to-visit gardens.”

• Thursday, May 2 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.. Van Vleck members get a 10% discount on plant purchases at the sale.

Public sale

• Friday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Saturday, May 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Sunday, May 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

MASTER GARDENERS

The Master Gardeners of Essex County will hold their annual plant sale on Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4 in Upper Montclair, and on Saturday, May 11 in Roseland. For more information, consult the MGEC website or call 973-228-2210.

According to a news release from organizers:

“The sale will feature Master Gardener grown tomato plants, basil, herbs and coleus. A robust selection of perennials, native plants, shrubs and woodies will also be offered. Roses curated by the Brookdale Park Rose Garden project will be available as well as locally produced honey from the organization’s beekeeper. The sale will include arrangements of decoratively potted plants and honey-related items that provide unique Mother’s Day gift ideas. Trained horticultural volunteers will be on hand to provide gardening and plant advice during the event.”

The Upper Montclair sale will be held at the Presby Memorial Iris Garden, 474 Upper Mountain Avenue on Friday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday, May 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Roseland sale will be on Saturday, May 11 at the Essex County Environmental Center’s Garibaldi Hall, 621A Eagle Rock Avenue from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

MONTCLAIR COMMUNITY FARMS

Montclair Community Farms will hold its fifth annual plant sale from May 2 to May 5. It will include vegetables and flowers, grown by the nonprofit’s team in Montclair at the Van Vleck-Turner greenhouse.

Proceeds will benefit the nonprofit’s mission of “providing affordable food access and educating the community.”

The sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Montclair Community Farms, 108 Orange Road, from Thursday, May 2 through Sunday, May 5. For more information, contact info@montclaircommunityfarms.org or visit the nonprofit’s website.
