Got a young reader at home who is also a pet lover? These dogs and cats in Montclair would love to hear a good tale.
MONTCLAIR, NJ — Got a young reader at home who is also a pet lover? There are some dogs and cats in Montclair who would love to hear a good tale.
The Montclair Public Library will host a public event from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, March 25 featuring “Murray,” a trained guide dog registered with the Bright and Beautiful therapy dog program in New Jersey.
At the event, youth aged 5 to 17 can read a book to Murray. No registration is required. However, out of respect for Murray’s needs, participants are asked to refrain from bringing children under five into the room, organizers said.

PAWS TO READ
The free, semi-monthly “Paws To Read” program at the Montclair Township Animal Shelter gives children in grades 2 to 5 – particularly those struggling to read – a chance to practice their phonetics by sharing their books with dogs and cats at the shelter.
According to organizers, children are introduced to the Montclair Township Animal Shelter and learn all about animal rescue and animal welfare in general. They then get a chance to spend some time reading to shelter animals. See Related: Kids Read To Cats, Dogs At Montclair Animal Shelter
Children should bring their favorite book to read. Donations will be accepted, according to Friends of the Montclair Township Animal Shelter, a nonprofit that helps the shelter fundraise.
The next dates for the Paws To Read program are scheduled for March 23, April 6 and April 20. Learn more or get free tickets online here.
