See Latest NJ Voter Totals For 2024 Election: Democrat, Republican
Republicans in New Jersey have gained ground on their Democratic Party peers, but remain outnumbered heading into October.
NEW JERSEY — Republicans in New Jersey have gained ground on their Democratic Party peers when it comes to registered voters, but they are still heavily outnumbered as the state revs up for the 2024 general election.
As of Oct. 1, there are 2,528,917 registered Democrats, 1,611,688 registered Republicans and 2,440,927 unaffiliated voters in New Jersey, according to the latest numbers from the Division of Elections.

State data shows that 38,030 new voters have registered since Sept. 1. The Democratic Party has gained 4,533 voters, and the Republican Party has gained 8,138.
Bergen County – which had the highest number of registered voters at 687,031 – had heavy representation from both Democrats (256,896) and Republicans (159,561).

Strongly represented counties for Democrats include Essex (301,046), Middlesex (243,108) and Hudson (220,915). Republican strongholds include Ocean (191,387), Monmouth (161,153) and Morris (137,799). See a full breakdown by county here.
Meanwhile, 78,431 voters across the state are registered with third-parties, including the Libertarian and Green parties.

There are three ways to cast ballots in New Jersey: vote-by-mail, in-person early voting (Oct. 26 to Nov. 3), and in-person voting on Election Day. Learn more about each method here.
According to an election tracker from the Associated Press, voters in New Jersey have already cast 166,019 mail-in ballots as of Oct. 7. Nearly 992,000 New Jerseyans have requested to vote by mail for the general election.
