Seven Places to Beat the Heat

How to stay cool during a very hot week and weekend.

With temperatures in Montclair expected to climb to 98 degrees by Saturday, here are seven ways to beat the heat—indoors—this coming weekend.

1) Go bowling by heading to Bowlmor Lanes in New York City, just off Times Square. The 90,000-square-foot venue features 50 lanes split into seven themed lounges. Go here for more information.

2) Go splashing at Great Wolf Lodge, a waterpark heaven in the Poconos (or not depending on your age and point of view). Check it out here.

3) Stay inside at the Rocking Horse Ranch in Highland, New York, a family resort with a waterpark and plenty of indoor fun. Check it out here.

4) Go climbing on Route 46 at the New Jersey Rock Gym. Hours: 2 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. Check it out here.

5) Get smart at the Liberty Science Center. Summer hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week. (To really feel cool, go see the IMAX film To The Arctic.) Go here for more information.

6) Explore a new world at the Discovery Center at Times Square—just a short walk from the Port Authority. Current exhibitions include the Terracotta Warriors, 2,000 years old.

7) If all else fails, see a movie. The Bellevue Cinema is showing The Amazing Spider-Man, Brave, Katy Perry: Part of Me, and Ted. Go here for showtimes.

We hope we've given you some ideas and that no matter what you do, you stay cool during what will be a hot weekend. Please feel free to add your own ideas in the comments section below. Or email Shelley@patch.com.
