Summer Meets Introduce Kids to Sport of Running

Introduce children to the sport of running by signing them up for a series of low-key track meets this summer organized by the Essex Running Club.

The meets are open to boys and girls ages 4 to 13 and will take place on Hurrell Field, 861 Bloomfield Ave., in Glen Ridge.

Meets are scheduled for Sundays, June 30 and July 14 and 28. Registration begins at 4 p.m. at meets start at 5 p.m.

There will be a number of running events, including, a 50-meter (ages 4-6), 100-meter (4 & up), 200-meter (5 & up), 400-meter (6 & up), 800-meter (7 & up) and 1-mile race (10 & up). Field events include the long jump and javelin throw.

Entry fee is $5 per child per meet and includes all events. Register in advance for all meets for $12.
