Two Essex Men Accused of Setting Fire to Hotel Room

A Montclair man and East Orange man were arrested after trying to start a fire in a Bergen County hotel room.

Two Essex County men were arrested early Monday after allegedly starting a fire and barricading themselves in their Bergen County hotel room.

Milton Hinton, 60, of Montclair, and Derrick Ellis, 53, of East Orange, were both arrested and charged with arson, aggravated assault and resisting arrest, according to NorthJersey.com.

Police responded to a 911 call shortly before 5 a.m. reporting a smell of smoke coming from a hotel room, NorthJersey.com said. The two men barricaded themselves in the hotel room using furniture, police said.

After gaining entry into the hotel room, police found burning toilet paper and a broken window, NorthJersey.com reported.

Hinton and Ellis were being held on $50,000 bail.
