Body Found In Water Behind Morris County Industrial Complex: Police

The body was recovered Sunday evening in Montville Township, officials told Patch.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Officials are investigating after a body was found behind an industrial complex in Morris County over the past weekend.

The body, which has not yet been identified, was retrieved from the water behind the industrial complex on Chapin Road in Pine Brook, according to Montville Township Police Chief Andrew Caggiano.

Caggiano stated that around 8:40 p.m., the department received a report about a missing 64-year-old man who had gone fishing on Saturday morning and had not returned.

Police said the man was believed to be heading to the small water source on Chapin Road to fish.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the man's fishing equipment on the shoreline and immediately began searching the area.

Later that evening, the body of an adult male was discovered and pulled from the water; he was pronounced dead at the scene, Caggiano said.

A spokesperson for the Morris County Sheriff's Office confirmed the incident to Patch but provided no further details, noting that it remains an "open investigation" and that releasing more information could "compromise its integrity."

Police said an autopsy is still needed to determine the cause of death.

The Detective Bureau of the Montville Township Police Department, in conjunction with the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, is continuing the investigation.
